The level has 4 pay points, from $36.22 to $39.53 an hour. Under clause 13.3, an employee becomes eligible for the next pay point after each 12 months of continuous employment, if they have shown competency and satisfactory performance. These SACS rates apply from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026, after the 4.75% annual wage review increase.

A worked 38-hour week at Level 2, pay point 1

Here is what a Level 2 employee at pay point 1 earns for a common mix of shifts: three weekday day shifts, a weekday afternoon shift finishing after 8pm, and a Saturday. No overtime, no public holiday, no allowances.

Level 2 pay point 1: one week, permanent vs casual
ShiftsHoursPermanentCasual
Monday–Wednesday day shifts (3 × 8h)24$36.22 × 24 = $869.28$45.28 × 24 = $1,086.72
Thursday afternoon shift (finishes 10pm)6$40.75 × 6 = $244.50$49.80 × 6 = $298.80
Saturday day shift8$54.33 × 8 = $434.64$63.39 × 8 = $507.12
Week total38$1,548.42$1,892.64

The same 38 hours worked as weekday day shifts pays $1,376.49. The afternoon loading and the Saturday rate add $171.93 for a permanent employee. The casual total is higher because the 25% loading is paid instead of leave entitlements. Level 1 starts at $27.55 an hour. Level 3 starts at $40.49 an hour, $0.96 above the top of Level 2. Pay points reward experience within a level, but moving to a higher level only happens by promotion or reclassification when the duties change (clause 13.3(b)). See all levels on the SCHADS pay rates page.

Level 2 entry points and qualifications

  • Employees with an appropriate certificate doing related work are appointed to Level 2. With a Certificate IV the minimum is pay point 2 (B.2.1(e)).
  • Diploma holders doing related work start at pay point 2 and advance after 12 full-time-equivalent months of satisfactory service (B.2.1(f)).
  • A worker with a Certificate IV or above who supervises others, including allocating work and rostering, can sit at this level (B.2.2(n)).

Qualifications set minimum starting points, but the level depends on the duties actually performed. Employers must tell employees their classification in writing when they start and when it changes (clause 13.2).
