NDIS compliance checklist

Registered NDIS providers are audited against the NDIS Practice Standards and must meet their conditions of registration. This checklist walks through the core module outcome by outcome, plus the registration basics, so you can see where your evidence is missing before an auditor does.

It is a summary, not the full set of quality indicators. Use it for a quick health check, then use our free self-assessment for an indicator-by-indicator review. Ticks are saved only in your browser.

How registration and audits work

Summarised from the sources listed at the end of this page. Check the current versions before you rely on them.

  • →Providers are audited by an approved quality auditor: a verification audit for lower-risk supports, or a certification audit against the core module and any supplementary modules that apply.
  • →The core module has four parts: rights and responsibilities; governance and operational management; provision of supports; and the support provision environment.
  • →Conditions of registration include worker screening, an incident management system, a complaints management system and compliance with the NDIS Code of Conduct.
  • →The Practice Standards are being reformed. Check the current version on the Commission's website before an audit.

How to fill it in

Step by step

  1. 1

    Confirm your scope

List your registration groups and work out which modules and audit type apply.

  2. 2

    Go through each outcome

Tick an item only when you can point to evidence: a policy, a record, a register or training data.

  3. 3

    Note the gaps

For each unticked item, write down what's missing and who owns fixing it.

  4. 4

    Go deeper where it matters

Use the self-assessment tool to rate the full quality indicators for your weakest areas.

  5. 5

    Fix and re-check

Close the gaps in priority order and re-run the checklist before your audit.

Questions

Is this checklist enough to pass an NDIS audit?
No checklist guarantees an audit outcome. This one summarises the core module so you can find gaps; auditors assess you against the full quality indicators and the evidence you provide.
Do unregistered providers need to meet the Practice Standards?
Unregistered providers aren't audited against the Practice Standards, but they must still follow the NDIS Code of Conduct, and the Commission can act on complaints about them.
What's the difference between a verification and a certification audit?
Verification audits are a lighter, desk-based assessment for lower-risk supports. Certification audits assess the core module and any supplementary modules, and include a site visit.
Are the NDIS Practice Standards changing?
The Commission is reforming the Practice Standards. Check its Practice Standards reform page for the current status before you prepare for an audit.
Where are the ticks saved?
