my NDIS portal
The my NDIS portal is the NDIA's secure online portal for NDIS plan information. Participants use the my NDIS or older myplace participant portal through myGov, or the my NDIS app; providers use the myplace provider portal for claims and the my NDIS provider portal for reports, signing in with myID.
Also called: myplace portal, myplace provider portal, my NDIS provider portal, my NDIS participant portal, my NDIS app, NDIS portal
Key takeaways
- Participants with plans made in the NDIA's new system use the my NDIS participant portal; older plans use the myplace participant portal.
- Participants sign in through myGov or the my NDIS app, and nominees use their own myGov account.
- Providers still lodge all agency-managed claims, including bulk payment requests, in the myplace provider portal.
- Provider portal access now uses myID and Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM), which replaced PRODA.
- NDIA portals handle plans and payments; the NDIS Commission's separate portals handle registration and reportable incidents.
What is the my NDIS portal?
The my NDIS portal is the NDIA's secure online portal where participants, nominees and providers view and manage NDIS plan information. There are two generations of portal: the my NDIS portals for plans in the NDIA's new computer system, and the older myplace portals for plans still in the previous system. Participants sign in through myGov or the my NDIS app; providers sign in with a Digital ID (myID).
Because the names are so similar, people search for "my NDIS portal", "myplace portal" and "NDIS portal login" interchangeably. In practice there are four NDIA portals, plus a mobile app, and which one you use depends on who you are and which system the participant's plan sits in:
- my NDIS participant portal — for participants whose plans are in the new system.
- myplace participant portal — for participants whose plans were made in the older system.
- my NDIS app — the mobile app for participants, nominees and child representatives.
- myplace provider portal — where registered providers and plan managers make payment requests.
- my NDIS provider portal — for exchanging information with the NDIA about participants in the new system.
These NDIA portals are separate from the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission's portals, which providers use for registration, reportable incidents and other regulatory obligations.
How the participant portals and app work
The NDIA's guide to the participant portals explains that the portal you use depends on when your plan was made. If your plan was created before the NDIA's new computer system rolled out (from October 2023), you use the myplace participant portal; if it was created after, you use the my NDIS participant portal. The new system is often called PACE.
Both participant portals are reached through myGov. Once your myGov account is linked to the NDIS, you can sign in at my.gov.au and choose NDIS under linked services, or select Portal sign in on the NDIS website.
- 1Create or open your myGov accountUse your own account. Nominees and child representatives use their own myGov, not the participant's.
- 2Link the NDIS to myGovAdd NDIS as a linked service. You will be asked to confirm details the NDIA holds about you.
- 3Sign inChoose NDIS under linked services in myGov, or select Portal sign in on the NDIS website and pick the participant portal.
- 4Open the right portal for your planPlans made in the new system open in the my NDIS participant portal; older plans open in myplace.
- 5Optionally add the my NDIS appDownload it from the App Store or Google Play and sign in with your NDIS number.
In the portal or app, participants can generally:
- view their NDIS plan, goals and funded supports;
- check budgets and what has been claimed against them;
- update contact details under "about me";
- make payment requests if they are self-managing (see self-management);
- see which providers are linked to their plan.
The my NDIS app is available from the Apple App Store and Google Play. You need your NDIS number to sign in, and the number then appears under the plan icon. Nominees and child representatives must use their own myGov account, not the participant's.
Provider portals: myplace and my NDIS
Providers have their own two portals, and they do different jobs. According to the NDIA's How to use the provider portals page, the my NDIS provider portal is used for participants on the new computer system and the myplace provider portal for participants on the old one, but claims are still made through the myplace provider portal.
| Task | myplace provider portal | my NDIS provider portal |
|---|---|---|
| Payment requests, including bulk upload | Yes, for all agency-managed claims | No |
| Service bookings | Yes, for plans in the older system | Not needed: new-system plans use "my providers" instead |
| Bank, contact and registration details | Yes | — |
| Quotes, referrals, messages and documents | Yes | — |
| Support coordinator and plan manager reports | — | Yes |
| Viewing sections of a participant's plan | Limited | Yes, for new-system plans |
For agency-managed participants whose plans are in the new system, the NDIA says providers must claim with a bulk payment request uploaded in the myplace provider portal, and the provider must be recorded as one of the participant's "my providers" (How to make a payment request). For plans in the older system, a service booking is still needed before a claim will pay.
Signing in as a provider: myID and RAM
The NDIA has replaced PRODA with myID and Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) for provider portal access. Each person who uses the provider portals needs their own Digital ID through the myID app, and the business's principal authority links the ABN in RAM and then authorises staff (myplace provider portal and resources). You then choose Portal sign in, Provider portals, and Continue with Digital ID. The NDIS Commission's portals also use myID (NDIS Commission: log in with myID).
- Principal authority has a myID Digital ID at the required strength
- Business ABN linked in Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM)
- Each staff member has their own myID and is authorised in RAM
- Bank and contact details checked in the myplace provider portal
- Registration groups and details checked in the portal profile
- Process for confirming you are a participant's my provider (new system) or have a service booking (older system)
- Access removed in RAM when a staff member leaves
my NDIS portal vs myplace vs the NDIS Commission portal
The quickest way to tell them apart: NDIA portals are about plans and payments; NDIS Commission portals are about registration and safeguards.
| Portal | Run by | Who uses it | Main jobs |
|---|---|---|---|
| my NDIS participant portal and app | NDIA | Participants, nominees, child representatives (new-system plans) | View plan and budgets, update details, self-managed claims |
| myplace participant portal | NDIA | Participants with older-system plans | View plan and budgets, self-managed claims, service bookings |
| myplace provider portal | NDIA | Registered providers and plan managers | Payment requests and bulk uploads, service bookings, bank and registration details |
| my NDIS provider portal | NDIA | Providers, support coordinators, plan managers | Reports to the NDIA, viewing parts of new-system plans |
| NDIS Commission portals | NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission | Providers and their workers | Registration, reportable incidents and other regulatory reporting |
- Needed to sign in to the my NDIS app
- Still needed for older-system plans
- Self-managing participants claim through the participant portal or app
- Lodged in the myplace provider portal
- The NDIA's new computer system behind the my NDIS portals
- The funding type providers claim through the portal
Tips for participants and providers
A few habits prevent most portal problems:
- Use your own login. Sharing a myGov or myID login means you can no longer tell who did what. Nominees, plan managers and staff should each have their own access.
- Check which system the plan is in. It determines whether a provider needs a service booking or to be a "my provider", and which participant portal applies.
- Keep bank and contact details current. Payments go to the account recorded in the portal.
- Reconcile regularly. Compare what the portal shows as claimed with your own records; the free NDIS budget tracker helps participants and providers see how fast funding is being used.
- Remove staff who leave. Withdraw their authorisation in RAM on their last day.
When something goes wrong in the portal
Most portal problems fall into a handful of patterns. Working out which one you have tells you who can fix it.
For participants
- The NDIS doesn't appear in myGov. The NDIS hasn't been linked as a service yet. Link it from the myGov services list, and contact the NDIA if it can't confirm your details.
- A nominee can't see the participant's plan. Check the nominee arrangement is recorded with the NDIA and that the nominee is using their own myGov account.
- A provider's claim looks wrong. Compare the claim with your service agreement and the support that was delivered. Raise it with the provider first; if it isn't resolved, contact the NDIA.
For providers
- Payment requests are rejected. The portal returns an error for each rejected line. Common causes are dates outside the plan, a missing service booking or my provider record, the wrong funding management type, or a price above the limit. Fix the line and resubmit only that line.
- A staff member can't sign in. Check they have their own myID and are authorised for the business in RAM.
- You can't see a participant. For new-system plans, you only appear once the participant or NDIA records you as a my provider.
Keep a simple log of portal errors and how you fixed them. Patterns in that log, such as repeated date errors around plan changes, usually point to a process gap rather than a one-off mistake.
Common misunderstandings
- "The my NDIS portal is where providers claim." Claims are still lodged in the myplace provider portal, including for new-system plans.
- "I can log in to the provider portal with PRODA." PRODA access has been replaced by myID and RAM.
- "Nominees log in with the participant's myGov." They use their own myGov account.
- "The portal is the same as the NDIS Commission portal." They are run by different agencies for different purposes.
- "Plan-managed participants claim in the portal themselves." Their plan manager pays providers and makes the payment requests.
Example
Illustrative example (fictional). Jordan coordinates a small community access provider. A new participant, Leah, has an agency-managed plan created in the NDIA's new system. Leah opens the my NDIS app, checks her plan and confirms with the NDIA that Jordan's organisation is recorded as one of her my providers.
Jordan's finance officer, Priya, has her own myID, and the business owner has authorised her in RAM. At the end of each fortnight Priya builds a bulk payment request from the approved shifts and uploads it in the myplace provider portal. One line is rejected because the support date fell before Leah's plan started, so Priya corrects it and resubmits only that line.
Separately, Jordan's support coordination colleague uploads a progress report for another participant through the my NDIS provider portal. When the business later notifies a reportable incident, that goes through the NDIS Commission's portal, not either NDIA portal.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the my NDIS portal and myplace?
Both are NDIA portals. Participants whose plans were made in the NDIA's new computer system use the my NDIS participant portal; those with plans from the older system use myplace. Providers make claims in the myplace provider portal and use the my NDIS provider portal for reports and plan information.
How do I log in to the my NDIS participant portal?
Link your myGov account to the NDIS, then sign in at my.gov.au and choose NDIS under linked services, or select Portal sign in on the NDIS website. Nominees and child representatives must use their own myGov account.
How do providers log in to the myplace provider portal?
Providers sign in with a Digital ID from the myID app. The business links its ABN in Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) and authorises staff, who then choose Portal sign in, Provider portals and Continue with Digital ID. PRODA is no longer used.
Where do NDIS providers submit claims?
Registered providers submit agency-managed claims in the myplace provider portal, either individually or as a bulk payment request file. The NDIA says claims for participants with plans in its new system must be made as bulk payment requests.
What is the my NDIS app?
The my NDIS app is the NDIA's mobile app for participants, nominees and child representatives. It is available on Apple and Android devices, needs your NDIS number to sign in, and shows your plan, budgets and NDIS number.
Is the NDIS Commission portal the same as the myplace portal?
No. The myplace and my NDIS portals are run by the NDIA for plans, claims and payments. The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission has its own portals for provider registration, reportable incidents and other regulatory obligations.
Do providers still need service bookings?
Only for plans in the NDIA's older system. For plans in the new system, service bookings aren't needed; instead the provider must be recorded as one of the participant's my providers before agency-managed claims will pay.
Related terms
- NDIA-managed fundingNDIA-managed funding, also called agency-managed funding, is the NDIS funding option where the NDIA pays providers directly from a participant's plan. Only registered NDIS providers can be used, price limits apply, and providers claim through the NDIA's provider portal instead of invoicing the participant.
- NDIS numberAn NDIS number is the unique 9-digit number the NDIA gives each NDIS participant, and it always starts with 43. It identifies the participant on plans, letters, the my NDIS app, service agreements, invoices and payment requests, and it stays the same when a new plan is made.
- NDIS planAn NDIS plan is the document the NDIA approves with a participant that sets out their goals and the funding the NDIS will provide for disability supports. It splits the funding into support budgets, says how it is managed and released in funding periods, and says when the plan will be reassessed.
- PACEPACE is the computer system the National Disability Insurance Agency uses to hold NDIS participants' information, plans and budgets and to pay providers. Rolled out from 30 October 2023, it replaced service bookings with "my providers" and requires bulk payment requests for claims against PACE plans.
- Payment requestAn NDIS payment request is a claim for payment lodged with the NDIA for a support delivered to a participant. Registered providers lodge them for NDIA-managed supports and plan managers for plan-managed supports, through the myplace provider portal, often as a bulk upload file.
- Plan managerAn NDIS plan manager is a registered NDIS provider that pays a participant's providers from their plan-managed funding, checks invoices against the price limits and claiming rules, and keeps the financial records. Plan managers are funded separately in the plan and do not find or coordinate supports.
- Self-managementSelf-management is the NDIS funding option where the participant or their nominee manages plan funding directly: they choose and pay providers, claim from the plan through the my NDIS portal or app, and keep records. Self-managers can use unregistered providers and aren't bound by price limits.
- Service bookingAn NDIS service booking was a record in the NDIA's older computer system that set aside part of a participant's NDIA-managed funding for a specific registered provider, support category and period. Providers needed one to claim. PACE plans don't use them; providers are recorded as my providers instead.
